Heart of Barrow is a regeneration scheme funded by the government and the European Community. Heart of Barrow - Building Bridges was funded by the Single Regeneration Budget (SRB) and ran from 1999 - March 31st 2005. The government's Urban Regeneration Fund (URF), called Heart of Barrow - Building the Future ran from 2002 - 2007. Activity is also funded by the North West Objective 2 Programme 2000 - 2006 (European Regional Development Fund) This money is now committed and the projects are due to end by Dec 2008

The programmes include major improvements to the built environment and other support for enterprise, including business premises. The target is long-term improvement throughout the Borough as a whole.

The Heart of Barrow programme concentrates mainly on the following wards:
  • Barrow Central
  • Barrow Island
  • Hindpool
  • Ormsgill
  • Risedale
  • Dalton South (ERDF)
Some of the projects operate over a wider area than the wards above, so if you need a grant, want to develop your skills or want to improve your community, please ask.
